, the new RM9bil
Kuala Lumpur International Airport
(KLIA) at Sepang, Malaysia - gateway to
Malaysia and the region - was opened by
His Royal Highness DYMM SPB
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Ja'afar
(paramount ruler of Malaysia)
in spectacular style with pounding of drums, dazzling laser
displays, a blaze of fireworks and skytracker high-beam lights
tracing the night sky.Malaysia unveiled its sleek
new airport, designed to put the Southeast Asian nation on the map
in the new millennium.
The Kuala Lumpur International Airport at Sepang is 50km away from Kuala Lumpur
city. KLIA is designed and build to be efficient, competitive and world-class
hub airport for the Asia-Pacific Region.
The KLIA posses the latest technology and state-of-the-ar equipment to ensure
maximum safety, minimum hassle and high efficiency. KLIA is unique because as
its slogan says,
"It's more than an airport"
and indeed it is. Within its boundaries, KLIA has all that it needs for
businesses, entertainment and relaxation.
KLIA Airport Control Tower
The
130-metre
(425ft) high tower is the tallest air
traffic control tower in the world. Shaped liked a giant Olympic
Torch, it will house the air traffic controllers, radar system and
high-tech air space computer system. The
Air Traffic Control
Office
and other support services are positioned at the
base of the tower. It was designed by a local
architect.
Air Traffic CONTROL ROOM
From the visual room of the Air
Traffic Control Tower, air traffic controllers can easily see the
entire length of KLIA's two parallel runways. The runways are
4,000 metres long and 60 metres wide. With 10 exit taxiways for each
runway, taxiing time for planes range from 2.1 minutes to 10.8
minutes.
